Makerspace@UB

The makerspace is accessible during the University Library’s opening hours/a>. Use of the machines is free of charge. Anyone wishing to use one of the machines must

• have a valid Ilmenau University Library card, 
• have completed the digital occupational safety training, including the knowledge test, once a year, and 
• hold the appropriate equipment certification for the desired machine (verified upon presentation of the thoska card). The equipment certification consists of textilLAB BASICS and textilLAB INTRO,
• Borrow the accessories for the respective machine from the Library of Things.

The machines must be reserved through the room reservation system. External users should contact the University Library Service Desk to make a reservation.

Those who decide on the spur of the moment may use the machines spontaneously, provided no one else is currently working on them. 

You must bring all necessary materials (e.g., thread, fabric, sewing needles if needed, and other supplies) with you, depending on the specific machine. Please use only high-quality supplies and materials to prevent damage to the machines. We recommend, for example, threads from the brands Gütermann, W6, Mettler, or Prym. Use only needles, presser feet, and accessories recommended by the machine manufacturers. 

The fabrics available in the Makerspace may be used as needed. If you’d like to work on your sewing project for more than one day, you can store your work in progress in one of the lockers in the Makerspace. Keys for the lockers are available at the counter.
