Textile ideas become reality in the Makerspace@UB. With the help of various sewing machines, jeans can be mended, bags sewn or fabrics made into clothing. An embroidery machine and a quilting machine are also available. Small and large projects can be realized, there are no limits to creativity.
The Makerspace@UB is part of TU Ilmenau's FabLab, which also includes the UNIKAT student workshop and the IlmkubatorLab. In close cooperation with our two partners, we try to offer all interested parties suitable opportunities to try out and create.
The room is open to you during the entire opening hours of the UB. The same terms of use apply to it. We would appreciate if you would follow the rules that are posted in the room and which you can read here.
You can book the room via our web form or you can just come to the service desk. We have space for several groups, so you don't have to worry if the room is already occupied.
You can use the lockers in the room to store your own tools or work. You can borrow the key at the counter for 4 weeks.

The machines must be booked via the room booking system. External users should contact the UB Service-Desk to make a booking.
Last-minute users can use the machines spontaneously if no one else is working on them.
All necessary materials (e.g. thread, fabric, sewing needles and other accessories) must be brought along, depending on the machine. Please only use high-quality accessories and materials so that the machines are not damaged. We recommend, for example, Gütermann, W6, Mettler or Prym threads. Only use needles, presser feet and accessories recommended by the machine manufacturer.
The fabrics in the Makerspace may be used if required. If you want to work on your sewing project for more than one day, you can temporarily store your work in progress in one of the lockers in the Makerspace. The keys are available at the counter.
