TenneT TSO GmbH is one of the four transmission system operators in Germany and plays a central role in the secure and reliable supply of electricity in Germany and the Netherlands. As the operator of around 24,500 kilometers of high-voltage lines, TenneT ensures that electricity from renewable and conventional sources is transported smoothly from the producer to the consumer. This excursion offers a unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of one of the most important players in the energy transition.
As part of the excursion, we will visit TenneT's control center, which is responsible for the central control of the transmission grid. This is where the electricity grid is monitored and controlled in real time to ensure a stable supply. The employees in the control center coordinate the load flows in the grid, react to fluctuations in electricity generation and, if necessary, make decisions to prevent grid disruptions. The growing feed-in of renewable energies makes this task particularly challenging, as wind and solar energy are weather-dependent and can therefore fluctuate. State-of-the-art technologies are used in the control room to overcome these challenges and efficiently control the operation of the grid.
The excursion to the control room of TenneT TSO GmbH will take place on 15 November 2024. The meeting point is at 5:45 a.m. at the Mensa bus stop. The excursion is expected to last until 8 pm.
