⚒️ Excursion to the "Volle Rose" show mine

Have you heard this greeting before? No? That's not surprising, because it's not often used in Germany anymore. It is the traditional greeting of miners.

In the area around Ilmenau, many mineral resources used to be mined, especially fluorspar (fluorite), baryte and manganese. A relic from this time is the mine "Volle Rose" in the valley of the little river Schorte. Today, you can visit this mine, ride a real mine train "unter Tage" (=into the mine) and learn about the history of mining.

We will meet on Saturday, 14.08.2021, at 2 p.m. at the Mensa. From there we will go on a short hike through the Schorte valley to the mine. Thus, please wear appropriate shoes.
Please bring a sweater or jacket, because the temperature in the mine is only about 10 °C.
