Thuringia has produced numerous personalities, some of whom have gone down in world history. From St. Elisabeth, reformer Luther and musical genius Bach to the classics Goethe and Schiller and the Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, there are traces to be found in this small state with a great history. But it is not only the "poets and thinkers" of this cultural state that are important. Many personalities, such as the legendary landgraves, play an important role in the identity of the Thuringians and are remembered for their achievements - from reform education, kindergartens and healthcare to publishing, insurance and sport. Last but not least, engineering innovations from the percussion needle rifle and the Brooklyn Bridge to the Jena Zeiss empire are due to genuine Thuringians.

Speaker Dr. Steffen Raßloff has presented 55 of these personalities in his latest book "Thuringian Personalities", from which he will read in the lecture.

The historian, publicist and curator is considered one of the best experts on the state's history and is the author of the standard works "Geschichte Thüringens" and "Mitteldeutsche Geschichte. Saxony - Saxony-Anhalt - Thuringia".
