Rheumatism is a widespread disease - everyone has heard of it and immediately thinks of crooked fingers and aching joints. But rheumatology is much more than that.

Specialists in rheumatology treat over 200 different inflammatory rheumatic diseases. And not only joints are affected, all other organs and tissues can also be affected - from the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, etc. to the blood vessels. Some illnesses are so-called "eye diagnoses", others have to be uncovered with detective work.

It is important to put together the patient's individual disease puzzle with care and expertise. Let us take you on a journey into the fascinating field of rheumatology, from "at-a-glance" diagnoses to detective work with exciting cases.

Dr. med. Sylke Schneider, MBA is a specialist in internal medicine and rheumatology and has been Chief Physician at the Klinik an der Weißenburg, Thuringia's only specialist hospital for rheumatology, since 04/2021. She studied Health Care Management while working and lives in the beautiful Saale-Holzlandkreis district.
