Rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, 3D printing - these current and widespread terms in science, development, design and manufacturing are the focus of the next event "Experts Meet Up - Science Meets Business" on November 16 at 3 p.m. in the premises of the IHK Erfurt.

Scientists and practitioners from commercial enterprises are cordially invited to share their knowledge, backgrounds and experiences on the topic.

The event will open with a keynote speech by Prof. Stefan Roth, Professor of Product Development and Design at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences. Against the background of his many years of professional experience in industry, he will take a closer look at the 3D hype and present an assessment of the current situation and an analysis of the potential of additive manufacturing. Holger Krause, Managing Director of PORTEC GmbH in Zella-Mehlis, will explain prototype construction in the interplay of different techniques in the second impulse.

The following questions will be up for discussion:

  • 3D printing is "on everyone's lips." But which other processes are suitable for rapid prototyping besides 3D printing?
  • How do I choose the most suitable process for me? Who will support me?
  • What is the technological status of 3D printing and how widespread is it for one-off to series production, especially in the industries of the future?
  • Where does 3D printing (still) come up against technological limits?
 

We would also be happy to take your questions and suggestions into account in the planning of the discussion rounds.

The series "Experts Meet Up - Science Meets Business" is jointly organized by the TU Ilmenau, the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Ilmenau and the clusters PolymerMat e. V. and ELMUG eG. The non-public network meetings are intended as a discussion forum for the exchange of current issues and challenges in business, science and society.
