The Association of Friends and Sponsors of Natural Sciences in Ilmenau e.V. and the Institute of Physics at TU Ilmenau are organising the popular science lecture series ‘Quantum in Ilmenau’ to mark the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics.

The lecture series will be continued by Professor Hannes Töpfer, Head of the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering, who will speak on the subject of ‘Energy-efficient microelectronics with superconductors’.

Superconductors are primarily known as materials that can conduct electricity without resistance and therefore without loss. They owe their properties to inherent quantum effects. The lecture will show how these quantum properties can be used in microelectronics - especially for the energy-efficient acquisition and processing of information. Superconductors thus offer the possibility of extremely energy-efficient, ultra-fast information technology, which can be categorised as ‘green electronics’.

Weitere Vorträge in der Veranstaltungsreihe:

27.05.2025 - Prof. Dr Jörg Kröger: Matter waves

10.06.2025 - Prof. Dr Thomas Hannappel: Solar energy

24.06.2025 - Prof. Dr Siegfried Stapf: Nuclear magnetic resonance

08.07.2025 - Prof. Dr Stefan Krischok: Photoelectric effect

The lectures take place on Tuesdays at 17:15 in the Faraday lecture theatre at TU Ilmenau (Weimarer Straße 32, new building, access via Prof.-Schmidt-Straße).

Admission to all events is free. All interested parties are welcome.
