The Association of Friends and Sponsors of Natural Sciences in Ilmenau e.V. and the Institute of Physics at TU Ilmenau are organizing the popular science lecture series "Quantum in Ilmenau" to mark the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics.

The lecture series will be continued by Professor Siegfried Stapf, Head of the Group of Technical Physics II, who will speak on the topic "Between quantum echoes and well-groomed relaxation - nuclear spins in our everyday lives".

Even if the question "What is a spin?" cannot be answered in simple pictures, the magnetic moment derived from it can very well be measured. In the case of nuclear spin, this is not only used for chemical analysis or medical diagnostics, but also, as shown in the lecture, to determine molecular movements from the atomic to the visible scale.

Last lecture in the event series:

08.07.2025 - Prof. Dr. Stefan Krischok: Photoelectric effect

The lectures take place on Tuesdays at 5:15 pm in the Faraday lecture hall of the TU Ilmenau (Weimarer Straße 32, new building, access via Prof.-Schmidt-Straße).

Admission to all events is free. All interested parties are welcome.
