Vehicle researchers from TU Ilmenau will present the latest results of their research on an innovative testing system for faster development of electric vehicles at the international SAE World Automotive Congress from 13 to 15 April in Detroit, USA. Furthermore Dr. Valentin Ivanov, Acting Head of the Automotive Engineering Group at the Technische Universität Ilmenau, will moderate a session dedicated to EU projects on innovative vehicle concepts.

In the project "Connected and Shared X-in-the-loop Environment for Electric Vehicles Development" (XILforEV), coordinated by TU Ilmenau, a total of nine industrial and research partners from Germany, Belgium, France, Slovenia, Spain and the Netherlands are researching an innovative X-in-the-loop test and inspection environment, which is necessary to accelerate the development of the complex systems of electric vehicles, which should meet requirements for safety and energy efficiency.

The project is funded by the most important European funding program "Horizon 2020" with about 3.5 million euros. When it is completed at the end of 2021, the first test platform of its kind in the world will have been created at TU Ilmenau, with which new types of powertrain and chassis systems for electric vehicles can be tested flexibly and extremely quickly. For car manufacturers, suppliers, providers of experimental equipment and software developers, this will lay the foundation for robust and fail-safe development of e-vehicles.

The XILforEV project is one of many research projects with which TU Ilmenau is actively shaping the energy transition and which are being brought into the public spotlight as part of its "Themenjahr Energie".

Founded in 1905 by Henry Ford and others, the SAE Association for Mobility Technology today unites 120,000 members worldwide.
