The Academic Orchestra cordially invites you to a varied summer concert whose program brings together three important composers from different eras and countries.
The concert opens with Ludwig van Beethoven's overture to "The Creatures of Prometheus" op. 43. Composed in 1801, this work originally opened Beethoven's ballet music and captivates with its powerful energy and triumphant character, bringing the mythological story of the Titan Prometheus musically to life.
This is followed by the four-movement Serenade op. 6 by Czech composer Josef Suk. Written in 1892, this youthful work by Dvořák's pupil enchants with its lyrical melody and characteristic Bohemian tone. The Serenade already demonstrates the compositional mastery of the then 18-year-old Suk and is one of his most popular orchestral works.
Finally, the orchestra will present the rarely performed Symphony No. 2 in A minor by Swedish composer Elfrida Andrée. As one of Sweden's first professional organists and a pioneer of the women's movement, Andrée created an impressive body of compositional work. Her second symphony combines romantic tradition with an independent musical language and deserves to be made known to a wider audience.
Under the direction of Pamela Mayorga, the Academic Orchestra promises an inspiring concert evening that will take you from Baroque mythology to Bohemian Romanticism and Scandinavian late Romanticism.
The concert begins at 7.30 pm (admission from 7 pm).
Tickets cost €10 (students reduced €5) and are available in advancefrom June 25 to 27 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the foyer of the Mensa and at the box office.
