The Freunde und Förderer der Naturwissenschaften in Ilmenau e.V. and the Institute of Physics at TU Ilmenau invite you to a popular science evening lecture:

The holy "three kings" and the "star" of Bethlehem viewed astronomically.

The star of Bethlehem can be seen above almost every nativity scene, but what kind of celestial body or bodies did the three kings follow? In his lecture, Dr. Wichard Beenken, who teaches astrophysics at the Institute of Physics, among other things, presents the three most common assumptions about possible celestial phenomena around the time of Christ's birth that could be considered Christmas stars and subjects them to a critical appraisal based on the account in the Gospel of Matthew.

The lecture will take place on this year's Epiphany, Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 5:15 pm in the Faradayhörsaal, Weimarer Str. 32 (new building), access and parking from Prof.-Schmidt-Straße.
