The PUCP Lima was founded in 1917 as a "Catholic university". In 1942, Pope Pius XII conferred the title of Pontifical University on the institution. The PUCP sees itself as a pluralistic and tolerant academic community that is guided by ethical, democratic and Catholic principles and respects the freedom of religious practice.
The PUCP currently has 13 schools (comparable to faculties) with 53 Bachelor's programs and 175 Master's programs. Around 31,590 students are currently enrolled at PUCP Lima. The institution maintains 11 double degree programs with universities worldwide - 4 of them with the TU Ilmenau.
Lima is the capital of the Andean state of Peru and by far the largest city in the country. Around 10,004,141 people live in the metropolitan region of Lima (Área Metropolitana de Lima) (as of 2022). Lima is also an important transport hub and the most important economic and cultural center of Peru with numerous universities, colleges, museums and monuments. The old town of Lima was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.

You will complete the first two semesters alongside your Peruvian fellow students on the regular Master's course at your home university and improve your Spanish language skills to level B2 at the same time. In the third semester, you will transfer to the partner university and spend two semesters there.
At the partner university, you will then take examinations in courses from the elective offer and deepen your knowledge of Spanish. The choice of subjects must be agreed with the home university.
You will begin your Master's thesis at the partner university in your first semester abroad and complete it in the following semester either there or at your home university. The Master's thesis must be written in English. One professor from the home university and one from the partner university are responsible for the supervision and final assessment of the Master's thesis
The Master's final examination, oral part, is assessed by a binational examination board. All credit points earned by you will be transferred to the grading system of the respective partner university and mutually recognized. As a graduate of the double degree program, you will receive a Master's degree from the PUCP for the degree program "Maestría Ingeniería Ciencias de los Materiales" and from the TU Ilmenau the Master's degree in "Materials Science". The two certificates refer to each other and are only valid in combination.
Admission to the double degree program requires you to have successfully completed your Bachelor's degree in Materials Science. At the time of your application, you will also need at least A2 level Spanish and B2 level Spanish at the start of your semester abroad.
Are you interested? Then apply to the relevant examination board with a letter of motivation. Selection and admission to the program is carried out by a committee consisting of representatives from both universities. If there are several applicants, the grade point average, foreign language skills and level of preparation will be decisive.
