University Partnerships

Are you interested in a stay at one of our numerous partner universities? Then contact us in advance and receive valuable information about the application process at the TU Ilmenau, the financing options, but also information/hints about studying at your favorite institution.

Some partner institutions require consultation before you can apply for a place at the International Office. This is because the conditions are set by the respective universities and the TU Ilmenau is not allowed to overrule decisions or even rejections by the partner institution.

You do not have to make this preliminary inquiry, but the International Office will contact the host institution after the joint interview.
Please also note that most institutions only have a limited number of exchange places available per semester. You will find out more about this in the interview.

You can apply twice a year at the International Office for a place at your preferred institution.

16.01. to 15.06. for stays in the following summer semester
16.06. to 15.01. for stays in the following winter semester

After the respective application deadline, we review all complete applications received. The selection committee then creates a ranking and awards the favored exchange places according to the following criteria:

1. Knowledge of the language of instruction at the host institution, knowledge of the national language is an advantage.
2. Based on the grade point average, motivation, language skills, and university/extracurricular involvement, an overall evaluation is made. In the evaluation, the current average is weighted twice. All other criteria are weighted single.
