Funding opportunities for international students

The cost of studying at TU Ilmenau is relatively low, as there are no tuition fees apart from the semester contribution. Even so, it is very important to ensure that your studies are financially covered. Being able to demonstrate that you can support yourself financially is a key requirement for obtaining both a visa and a residence permit. Secure funding is also an important foundation for academic success: the more carefully and realistically you plan your finances, the easier it will be to concentrate on your studies.

Except for the so-called Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium), universities in Germany usually do not provide scholarships themselves. For this reason, prospective students should also search for funding opportunities from other organizations—not only in Germany, but also in their country of origin. Please keep in mind that new students are only rarely able to receive a scholarship or other financial support before enrolling at a German university and presenting initial graded academic achievements.
