Under the motto "Beflügelt - International young master pianists in concert", this year's two scholarship holders of the Elfrun Gabriel Foundation will give a varied piano recital in the Audimax of the TU Ilmenau on Wednesday, October 23. The pianists Jinju Jeong and Seonghyeon Leem will be performing in this year's "Music in the Audimax" series.

Tickets are available at the box office. Tickets go on sale at 18:30 and the concert starts at 19:30.

Pianist Seonghyeon Leem

The South Korean pianist Seonghyeon Leem made her European debut in the concert hall of the Mozarthaus in Vienna. She won the International Pro Musicis Award 2023 and was invited to perform in the 2023/24 season at the Salle Cortot in Paris, the Arsenal in Metz, the Lisztomanias Festival in Châteauroux and the Théâtre Saint Bonnet in Bourges, at the Grieg Begegnungsstätte, the Robert-und-Clara-Schumann-Haus and the Gohliser Schlösschen in Leipzig. Seonghyeon Leem performed at the Jose Races Gala, which was broadcast live on MDR television. As a highlight of the 2022/23 season, she won first prize at the 5th Istanbul Orchestra' Sion International Piano Competition. She performed Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Mozarteum University Symphony Orchestra and conductor Ion Marin at the Haus für Mozart at the Salzburg Festival. She played Ravel's Piano Concerto with the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Hankyeol Yoon. In June 2023, she performed at the 25th anniversary concert of the Musica Mundi Festival at the Palais de Beaux Arts in Brussels.

Seonghyeon Leem has performed concert tours in Germany, France, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, China and South Korea.

On the various tours she has worked with Sławomir Chrzanowski and the Zabrze Philharmonic Orchestra, Alexander Drčar and the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra, Ja-Kyung Year and the Gunpo Prime Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Dong-Su Kim and the Sunhwa Wind Orchestra.

Seonghyeon Leem received a bachelor's degree with honors from Seoul National University, where she studied with Prof. Aviram Reichert. She then studied with Prof. Jacques Rouvier at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, where she received her master's and postgraduate degrees. Seonghyeon is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig in the master class of Prof. Christian A. Pohl.

Seonghyeon Leem has taken part in master classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Menahem Pressler, Arie Vardi, Elisabeth Leonskaja and Maxim Vengerov. Important mentors for her are Paul Gulda and Eunju Heo.

In June 2023, she was selected as a scholarship holder in the competition for the Elfrun Gabriel Scholarship. She will play numerous piano recitals in central Germany during the scholarship period. Further information: https: //seonghyeonleem.com/

Pianist Jinju Jeong

Jinju Jeong was born in South Korea in 1993 and grew up in Seoul. She received her first piano lessons at the age of five. In 2008, she began early studies at the Korean Academy of Arts Goyang and gave numerous concerts while still at school. She studied at the Rostock University of Music and Drama with Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit and completed her bachelor's degree with distinction.

In 2017, she made her debut as a soloist with Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor op. 54, accompanied by the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock. As a member of a piano trio, she performed at "Carte blanche für die hmt" and won 1st prize at the "Val Tidone" chamber music competition.

The young pianist has attended numerous masterclasses, including with Menahem Pressler, Christine Schornsheim, Bernd Glemser, Pavel Gililov, Jacques Rouvier, Bernd Zack, Eldar Nebolsin, Arnuld von Arnim, Peter Nágy, Bernd Goetzke and Maria Joãs Pires.

In July 2020, Jinju Jeong was selected as a 2020/21 scholarship holder as part of the selection audition for the Elfrun Gabriel Foundation scholarship.

Jinju Jeong completed her master's degree from 2019 to 2023 at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig in the class of Prof. Jacques Ammon and was subsequently accepted into his master class.
