500 Euro study start-up aid

Students looking at ipadTU Ilmenau/Michael Reichel

The "StudiumThüringenPlus" financial aid from the State of Thuringia can be applied for until September 15 at the Studierendenwerk Thüringen. This provides financially needy first-year students with one-time support of 500 euros before they start their studies in their first university semester.

"This program offers even more equal opportunities in taking up studies," says Dr. Ralf Schmidt-Röh, managing director of the Studierendenwerk, "all new students from low-income families should take advantage of this opportunity." The grant is awarded to first-year students from low-income families who are admitted for the first time to a state or state-recognized Thuringian university for a first degree program in attendance form. The money from "StudiumThüringenPlus" can be used, for example, for PC hardware and software, study materials and study literature, language courses, the semester fee (without semester ticket) or other study-related expenses.

In August, 24 applications for start-up assistance were submitted to the Studierendenwerk, 16 of which were approved. Unfortunately, Master's students cannot be granted start-up assistance because they are not beginning their studies for the first time. This has led, among other things, to the rejection of applications.

The start-up aid will be granted until the winter semester 2023/2024. All information on how to apply and the application form can be found at https://www.stw-thueringen.de/en/student-financing/
