How can vibrations in structures be made visible and even audible? Answers to these questions were provided by the 5th ProTELC Science Camp ‘Structural Echoes’, which took place from 24 September to 2 October 2026 at the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Bauhaus University Weimar.
A total of 23 Master’s students from four Thuringian universities took part in the camp: students from the Technical University of Ilmenau, the Bauhaus University Weimar, Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and the EAH Jena, representing a wide variety of degree programmes.
The Science Camp offered a creative workshop atmosphere in which experimentation, engineering thinking and data analysis came together. Participants gained practical insights into current fields of research and application and worked together on innovative solutions.
Prof. Thomas Kissinger from our institute, together with staff members Christopher Tom Ries and Felix Hellmann, supervised the construction of fibre-optic sensors as the first part of the camp in Ilmenau.
