Christoph GorkeOn Saturday, June 20, the TU Ilmenau will host a computer science workshop for students in grades 8 through 13. Over the course of the day, the students will immerse themselves in the fascinating world of computer science and have the opportunity to conduct their own experiments. They will also learn about the work of computer scientists and discover how studying at TU Ilmenau can set them on the path to exciting career fields. And following the computer science workshop, they can also visit the Ilmenau Science Night—the major event at TU Ilmenau and throughout the city featuring hands-on science. Registration by June 10: www.tu-ilmenau.de/schuelerworkshop
Computer science is found in many areas today: recognizable at first glance, for example, in computer games and search engines, or deeply embedded in vehicles or medical technology devices. The activities in computer science professions are correspondingly diverse. In the computer science workshop on June 20, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, students will gain realistic insights into practical applications and scientific research fields in computer science. And in various workshops, they can try things out for themselves: for example, they’ll build a circuit that lets them record their own heartbeats using their cell phones. They’ll learn how vehicles navigate autonomously—that is, without a driver—and discover how the internet determines the fastest route to the recipient when delivering packages. They’ll also explore the world of big data—particularly large volumes of data.
Through conversations with researchers and students at TU Ilmenau, the girls and boys discover just how diverse and fascinating the degree programs in Computer Science, Engineering Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, and Technical Cybernetics and Systems Theory are.
Parents who wish to accompany their children are warmly welcome at the Parents’ Café. Knowledgeable representatives from the Department of Computer Science and Automation will be on hand to explain everything about studying and life in Ilmenau.
