Thomas GoldaOn Saturday, June 17, the student workshop on computer science will take place at the TU Ilmenau. In four exciting workshops, boys and girls from the 8th to 13th grade can learn about the fascinating world of computer science and also experiment themselves. They learn about the activities of computer scientists and engineers and they find out how they can become one themselves at the TU Ilmenau. Since the number of participants is limited, early registration is recommended.

Computer science can be found in many areas today: at first glance recognizable, for example, in computer games and search engines, or deeply embedded in vehicles or medical technology devices. The various activities of computer scientists are correspondingly diverse. In the computer science workshop for schoolchildren on June 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., students will gain realistic insights into the activities and research fields of computer scientists and engineers. And in four workshops, they can get hands-on themselves: In one workshop, they build a digital stethoscope for their own cell phones, which they can use to record heartbeats. In the "line tracking" workshop, they take their first steps on the road to autonomous driving. They learn how the Internet forwards packets and determines the fastest route to the recipient. And in the "Data Science" workshop, they go in search of clues in the world of big data.
In addition to the workshops, the boys and girls learn in discussions with scientists and students how varied and fascinating the courses of study in computer science, engineering computer science, biomedical engineering, and technical cybernetics and systems theory are.
Parents who would like to accompany their children are welcome at the parents' café. Competent conversation partners from the Department of Computer Science and Automation are available here to explain everything about studying and living in Ilmenau.
