Precision Manufacturing Reimagined

Dr. Johannes Belkner from our institute and Dr. Daniel Seichter have been honored with the Dagmar Schipanski Prize for their outstanding scientific work at the Technical University of Ilmenau. Their exceptional dissertations demonstrate how research conducted at the Technical University of Ilmenau pushes technological boundaries and enables concrete applications in industry and society:

Johannes Belkner was honored at the DFG Research Training Group 3D-NanoFab for his dissertation, “Contributions to Direct Laser Writing on Curved Surfaces,” which he completed under the supervision of Prof. Eberhard Manske, Prof. Thomas Kissinger, and Prof. Peter Lehmann at the University of Kassel. Thanks to his research, it will be possible in the future to accurately create ultra-fine structures - a hundred times thinner than a human hair - using a laser, even on uneven surfaces.

At the Science Forum held by the Technical University of Ilmenau on April 15, 2026, Johannes Belkner gave an overview of his work.
