Excursion to the BMW Leipzig car plant - insights into modern vehicle production

Leipzig, 18.07.2024

On July 18, 2024, a group of automotive engineering students went on an excursion to one of Germany's largest automotive plants in Leipzig. The aim of the visit was to experience the processes and technologies of modern vehicle production at first hand and to gain an insight into industrial production on a global scale.

The study trip began with a detailed tour of the various production areas, from body shell production to the paint shop and final vehicle assembly. It was possible to follow the entire manufacturing process and experience how advanced production technologies such as robot automation, automated transport systems and digital production control are used to increase efficiency and quality. A particular highlight was the tour of the assembly hall, where the vehicles received their final components such as engines, electronic systems and interior fittings.

After the tour, the students had the opportunity to talk to experts from production and ask questions about technical details, sustainability in production and the requirements for future vehicle development. "The visit gave us valuable insights into the practical challenges of the automotive industry and deepened our understanding of the complex production processes," said one student.

This excursion offered the students a unique opportunity to experience the knowledge acquired in the lectures directly in an industrial environment and at the same time to make contacts that could be beneficial for future internships and career starts.
