Anastasiia/stock.adobe.comOn November 17, the exhibition "Together against Sexism", organized by the alliance "Together against Sexism", which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth in cooperation with the European Academy for Women in Politics and Business, will be launched in the University Library. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of sexism and actively combat discrimination. The exhibition marks the start of the action week of the Thuringian universities on the occasion of the International Day against Violence against Women on November 25.
The exhibition "Together against Sexism" will be on display in English from November 17 to December 14 at the University Library Ilmenau, Langewiesener Str. 37. It can be seen in German at the Ilmenau Women's and Family Center, Wetzlarer Platz 2.
Wolfgang Ramsteck, Chancellor of the TU Ilmenau, and Beate Misch, Mayor of the City of Ilmenau, would like to send out a joint signal for respect and equality with the official opening of the exhibition on November 17, 15:00, in the University Library. Afterwards, Katja Tonisch, Equal Opportunities Officer at TU Ilmenau, will give the lecture "Sexism in the university context", in which she will highlight current challenges and show ways in which respectful interaction at universities can be promoted.
Several events are planned to accompany the exhibition "Together against sexism". On November 25, the TU Ilmenau's University Film Club HFC will be showing the film "Never Rarely Sometimes Always" in the original language with German subtitles, which is about 17-year-old Autumn, who has to travel from Pennsylvania to New York City to have an abortion. As part of the participation of the city of Ilmenau and the TU Ilmenau in the United Nations Women's Campaign "Orange the World", which draws attention to violence against women worldwide, flags will be hoisted in Ilmenau and buildings and shop windows will be bathed in orange light.
With the initiative against sexism and discrimination against women, the city and university want to raise awareness of the issue, encourage public dialog and promote solidarity within the city's public.
