Professor Martin Löffelholz, Dr. Aynur Sarısakaloğlu, Dr. Pauline Gidget Estella, and former department members Dr. Yi Xu and Kathrin Schleicher, have contributed three chapters to the newly published “Handbook of International Crisis and Risk Communication Research.”

In their article, Martin Löffelholz and Yi Xu examine the complex institutional framework that has evolved to address transnational health crises. Drawing on the findings of two large-scale empirical studies, they analyze governmental communication strategies in health emergencies and explore contextual factors that shape the selection and design of these strategies.

Aynur Sarısakaloğlu and Pauline Gidget Estella explore the challenges and perspectives of war reporting in a rapidly changing media environment. They investigate key influences and recent developments, highlighting how media and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, are reshaping journalistic portrayals of war.

In her chapter “Military, Government, and Media Management in Wartime,” Kathrin Schleicher analyzes how military and governmental actors influence media coverage during conflicts. She discusses key theoretical approaches to the relationship between war communicators and the media.
