TU Ilmenau/ariOn Saturday, May 10, 2025, students and other interested parties will find out how studying at TU Ilmenau leads young people into cutting-edge research and paves the way to internationally successful careers at the Open Day: At the opening at 10:15 a.m., mechanical engineering graduate Philipp Caspari will report in the Audimax on his path from studying at Ilmenau University of Technology to international Alzheimer's research. Following the student information day, the graduates who successfully completed their studies or doctorate in the first quarter of 2025 will be given a ceremonial farewell. The University of Ilmenau Society - Friends, Sponsors, Alumni e. V. will award the Dagmar Schipanski Prize for outstanding scientific work as part of the ceremony from 3 pm.
If you are interested in science and technology and would like to find out more about what you can achieve with a degree in engineering, computer science, economics, media, mathematics or natural sciences, you have many opportunities at the Study Information Day at the TU Ilmenau. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 10, the university will open its doors to anyone who would like to find out more about the TU Ilmenau - especially its range of courses. To kick things off, Philipp Caspari, a mechanical engineering graduate from TU Ilmenau, will give an insight into his journey from TU Ilmenau to the US university town of Berkeley and back to his home town of Barchfeld in Thuringia and report on how he is working in both places with his start-up Healyan to revolutionize Alzheimer's therapy.
At information and advice stands, prospective students can then talk to Philipp Caspari, as well as other graduates, staff and current students, to find out everything they need to know about the university's range of courses - from long-established courses to newly designed Bachelor's and Master's programs. They are tailored to current labor market conditions and new requirements for graduates and are based on research-intensive areas at TU Ilmenau such as biomedical engineering, data science and energy technology. Science and technology can also be experienced live throughout the day on the campus at Oberer Ehrenberg - with interactive laboratory tours, experimental lectures, demonstrations and workshops.
Another highlight of the day is the ceremonial presentation of graduation certificates to graduates who successfully completed their Bachelor's or Master's degree or doctorate between January 1 and March 31, 2025. During this period, TU Ilmenau will bid farewell to a total of 230 young people embarking on a professional career in science or business or on subsequent Master's degree programs at TU Ilmenau, other German or international universities.
Once a year, the Ilmenau University Society - Friends, Sponsors, Alumni e. V. also awards the Dagmar Schipanski Prize for the best dissertation as part of this event. The prize of the University Society also commemorates the work of Professor Schipanski as a scientist, Rector of the TU Ilmenau and, among other things, Minister of Science of Thuringia and honors her commitment to science and young scientists.
