From March 24 to 26, the NeuroSensEar project held a spring workshop at the Institute for Functional Nanosystems at the University of Ulm. The project brings together partners from the TU Ilmenau (Department of Audiovisual Technology and Department of Theoretical Physics 2), the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT), IMMS GmbH and the University of Ulm (Institute for Functional Nanosystems). The Audiovisual Technology department is responsible for evaluating the developed sensor systems and hearing aids with regard to human perception. During the workshop, project members shared their latest progress, discussed next steps and explored future collaborations. In addition, there were keynote presentations by experts from Ulm University on topics related to neuroscience, cognition and machine learning, such as binding in vision and hearing, implantable electronics for neural recording, stimulation and modulation, auditory perception and cognition in relation to phoniatrics and pedaudiology, integration of sensory information and experience for robust spatial hearing and continuous reinforcement learning. The workshop provided us with a very valuable platform for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration among NeuroSensEar researchers, and we are very happy to have also met the research colleagues in Ulm.
