Good news for the Holz-21-regio research alliance: the project funded as part of the project family "WIR! - Change through innovation in the region" receives a further 7 million euros in funding from the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Aeronautics (BMFTR) to develop the Thuringian Forest region into a model region for climate-resilient forest conversion and the sustainable use of wood.

The alliance, led by Fachhochschule Erfurt, brings together various partners from research and practice, including FH, Technische Universität Ilmenau and several Fraunhofer Institutes, as well as partners from business, administration and tourism. Together they develop innovations for the establishment and monitoring of species-rich and resilient mixed forests, technologies for sustainable timber construction and new ways of using and processing raw wood. The aim is to strengthen the sustainable use of wood as a raw material along the entire value chain, promote sustainable tourism, create new economic prospects in rural areas and raise public awareness of the potential of the forest.
"The interaction between science, business and politics is crucial to making the Thuringian forest fit for the future," explains Prof. Gunther Notni, Head of Quality Assurance and Industrial Image Processing at TU Ilmenau and deputy spokesperson for the alliance: "The funding enables us to continue along this path consistently."
