Photo created by G. Schuller with the help of AI (ChatGPT)This semester, there has been an exciting innovation in the lectures of Professor Gerald Schuller (Applied Media Systems Group): specialized chatbots that support students as digital assistants. These AI-based helpers are trained to answer questions about the lecture content, organizational details and basic topics. Their knowledge base consists of my lecture books, slides and other relevant materials so that they can provide well-founded and contextualized answers.
A special feature of the chatbots is their multilingualism.
Students can ask their questions in different languages and still receive precise answers. This not only facilitates access to knowledge, but also helps international students to find their way around more quickly.
The chatbots are designed not only to provide students with information, but also to train them in the competent use of AI-supported tools. They learn to ask specific questions and integrate the answers into their studies in a meaningful way. Practice has shown that this works very well: Several hundred conversations have already been held with the chatbots this semester, clearly demonstrating their potential as effective learning support.
This development shows how modern technologies can revolutionize learning and teaching. The combination of in-depth knowledge transfer and innovative methods enables a more efficient and interactive learning environment for everyone involved.
