Sebastian SachsThe week before last, our colleague Sebastian Sachs attended the 14th International Symposium on Turbulence and Shear Flow Phenomena (TSFP14) in Heidelberg, where he presented our latest research on “Event-based Lagrangian particle tracking for turbulent shear flows”.
In this work, we demonstrated how 3D event-based particle tracking can be applied to investigate turbulent pipe flow at the CICLoPE Laboratory. By resolving particle motion directly within the viscous sublayer, we were able to derive statistics on the distribution of turbulent wall shear stress and capture key characteristics of the near-wall flow. The particle trajectories were obtained using STELLA, our recently published open-source framework for processing particle-tracking data from event-based cameras: https://lnkd.in/ePKue4r6
Many thanks to Gabriele Bellani, Jan Heiland, Chris Willert, Massimiliano Rossi and Christian Cierpka for their excellent collaboration. We would also like to thank Martin Oberlack and the entire organising team for hosting an inspiring TSFP14 and bringing together the international turbulence community in Heidelberg.
