The program for the Ilmenau Science Night—which will bring the fascinating world of science and technology to life for young and old alike on June 20—has already been finalized two months in advance. Participation by our own staff, as well as numerous research institutes and companies from the region, was so high that over 170 program items will be offered on the university campus, in the "Am Vogelherd" industrial park, and throughout the city center. With the exception of the opening concert by the Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra, all events at the Ilmenau Science Night are free of charge.

On Saturday, June 20, the entire city of Ilmenau will become a stage for science and technology: Starting at 5 p.m., the TU Ilmenau, the City of Ilmenau, the Ilm Kreis, and the “Thüringer Bogen” economic region invite you to the Ilmenau Science Night. Through more than 170 program items, the partners—together with companies and institutions from the region—will bring the fascinating world of science and technology to life for all age groups—and break down even the most complex topics into easy-to-understand, exciting, and interactive presentations.
To kick things off, guests can look forward to a special musical highlight starting at 3 p.m.: Under the motto “Music Meets Science,” the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach, together with the Chamber Choir of the TU Ilmenau, will present a concert in the Auditorium Maximum—the university’s largest lecture hall—specifically designed for the Ilmenau Science Night. This marks not only the first collaboration between the Thüringen Philharmonie and the TU Ilmenau, but also the first collaboration between an orchestra and a university in all of Thuringia. The program features various film scores, including music from the Charlie Chaplin film “Modern Times,” “Jurassic Park,” and the science fiction epic “Interstellar”—all composed by the world-renowned German film composer Hans Zimmer. As a special nod to the natural sciences and technology, the Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra Gotha-Eisenach will present Friedrich Wille’s “Principle of Differentiation and Integration Cantata,” a musical representation of the fundamental principle of differential and integral calculus, written and set to music by the mathematician Friedrich Wille. Concert tickets are now available for purchase at a price of 15 euros; children and students pay 10 euros.
Starting at 5 p.m., the institutes and groups of TU Ilmenau and numerous partners will demonstrate just how exciting research and technology can be as they open their doors and laboratories, demonstrate experiments, and give presentations on mathematics, natural sciences, technology, economics, and media—all for visitors to watch, participate in, and marvel at. There will also be plenty for children and families to discover: from a stamp rally and hands-on activities to an escape room.
Information about the Ilmenau Science Night, the full program, and concert tickets are available at www.ilmenauer-wissenschaftsnacht.de. Thanks to LineUpr GmbH, the program can now be conveniently downloaded to a smartphone via an app for the first time, allowing visitors to plan their own personalized discovery tour. This way, visitors to the Ilmenau Science Night can experience firsthand what sets Ilmenau and the region apart: an impressive diversity of science, business, and innovation.
The seventh edition of this science adventure for the whole family is presented by leading industry partners that exemplify cutting-edge high-tech applications, innovative materials, and the energy supply of the future: Micro-Epsilon Ceramics GmbH, SCHOTT AG, TEAG Thüringer Energie AG, and Stadtwerke Ilmenau GmbH.
