When the 21st Thuringian Materials Day takes place at TU Ilmenau on March 14, young people are invited to attend alongside the specialist audience. Pupils in grades 10 to 12 can find out more about the theme of the Materials Day "Materials in the circular economy and energy transition" in specialist lectures, workshops and a scientific exhibition. TU Ilmenau wants to interest young people in studying and pursuing a career in materials research or industry. Registrations are due by March 3rd: zukunft@tu-ilmenau.de

Due to their diverse properties, plastics are indispensable in everyday life and in industry as a material in many areas: in lightweight vehicle construction, in medical technology or to package food hygienically. Plastics are extremely resistant to environmental influences, but up to now they have only been partially recycled. As a result, the volume of used plastics is increasing dramatically - and with it the burden on the environment. An efficient recycling economy is the order of the day, because only in this way can plastics be the material of the future.

The motto of the 21st Thuringian Materials Day is "Materials in the circular economy and energy transition". The special feature of this year's Materials Day: The young generation will be involved in the current topics of the plastics cycle in order to help shape their own future. Interested young people in grades 10 to 12 are cordially invited to attend technical presentations and exchange ideas with scientists at the TU Ilmenau from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 14. In practical workshops, they will not only learn all about the recycling cycle of plastics, they will also learn how to make objects from recycled plastics themselves. The workshops are organized by the Ilmenau and Rudolstadt student research centers and the "MI(N)TmachLabor" SensorSpace Hermsdorf, which aims to get young people interested in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.
