Maximilian Zehring (CCS group)

The Media and Communication Management Group was represented at the 71st Annual Conference of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft (DGPuK), held in Dortmund from March 18 to 20, 2026, by Miriam Bernhard.

On Thursday, Miriam Bernhard participated together with Max Schindler (CCS group, TU Ilmenau) in the special session "Hype oder Zäsur? Wie stark und wie schnell verändert KI die Kommunikationswissenschaft?". The session was based on the observation that artificial intelligence is currently triggering profound and dynamic changes in academia. The discussion focused on how these developments affect teaching and research in communication science and how the discipline can respond to the associated challenges and opportunities for shaping these transformations.

Bernhard and Schindler also contributed their perspective as initiators of the working group "AI in Communication Science". Their contribution to the agenda block of the special session particularly addressed possible courses of action and strategic approaches to dealing with the outlined changes.

Participation in the annual conference also provided opportunities for academic exchange, networking within the scholarly community, and discussions of current research topics.
