One of the photos of the Ilmenauer Fotostammtisch, which will be exhibited until July 30 in the University Library

From June 1 to July 30, 20 of the best photos taken by the Ilmenauer Fotostammtisch over two decades will be on display in the University Library of the Technische Universität Ilmenau. The photo exhibition AUGENBLICKE shows an overview of the work of five Ilmenau photo friends who have been closely connected with photography since their earliest youth. The photos on display show how they have followed technical developments over the years. Today they use the enormous advantages of digital photography, but also their experiences from the analog time. The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from Monday to Saturday during the library's opening hours.

Since 1991, the Ilmenauer Fotostammtisch has been a meeting place for taking pictures and talking shop about photography. The Ilmenauer Fotostammtisch, that is Horst Bradsch, Uwe Kohlmann, Herbert W. Seidel, Andreas Viohl and Reinhard Vogel. The Ilmenau photo enthusiasts observe and experience the changes in photography, especially the changes brought about by digital technology: today, photos can be taken, edited, viewed and sent in real time to any corner of the world at any time.

The new technical possibilities have brought many advantages, but also a decisive disadvantage: photos become mass-produced goods and are quickly lost from memory because they are drowned in the flood of digital images. What is often missing is the peace and quiet to consciously contemplate a good picture. Not least for this reason, it is worth visiting the photo exhibitionAUGENBLICKE in the University Library of the TU Ilmenau.
