Our team member Milin has contributed to the newly published article "A typology of gender-based needs" in the journal Frontiers in Political Science. The publication is a result of WP1 of the Horizon project UNTWIST. It examines how gender shapes political and social needs and how these are considered - or neglected - in different policy fields.
Based on a mixed-methods literature review of 404 scientific publications from six European epistemic communities, the study develops a typology of gender-based needs along six dimensions: (1) gender lens, (2) policy field, (3) proposed solutions, (4) epistemological approach, (5) key actors and (6) interests.
By analyzing co-occurrences of these dimensions, both central patterns and different ideal types of gender-based needs in the scientific literature become visible. The typology offers an evidence-based conceptualization that contributes to feminist theory, systematizes epistemic and geographical differences, and provides policy makers with a tool to better understand which gender-based needs are currently addressed and which remain neglected.
