The New Year's Concert 2024 will open with the Sinfonietta by composer, conductor and choirmaster Wolfgang Hocke, who was born in Dresden in 1937 and will be present in person at the concert. The Academic Orchestra's second work will be the lively Viola Concerto in D major, Op.1, by Carl Stamitz (1745-1801), which is considered one of the most sought-after audition pieces for violists today. The New Year' s Concert ends with the Overture in D by Franz Schubert (1797-1828).

The TU Ilmenau's New Year's Concert is traditionally associated with the President, Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, looking back on the past year and looking forward to the coming year.

The TU Ilmenau Academic Orchestra was founded in 1967 as a chamber orchestra of the Technischen Hochschule, the forerunner of today's Technischen Universität. Its members are students and employees of the university as well as amateur musicians from the region.
