Increased cooperation in the exchange of students and young researchers this is the result of a visit by a six-member delegation from China Jiliang University (CJLU) to TU Ilmenau. The guests spent two days discussing research and study issues with representatives of the TU Ilmenau Presidential Board and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The aim of the visit was to consolidate and further expand the partnership that has existed since 2013.

The visit took place at the invitation of Professor Thomas Fröhlich, Deputy Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. From 2013 to 2019, the Head of the Institute of Process Measurement and Sensor Technology and the Department of Process Measurement Technology himself worked at CJLU and, as a visiting professor, regularly gave lectures in English on basic topics of measurement technology a cross-sectional technology that plays a central role in manufacturing, assembly and quality control, also in the age of Industry 4.0, so that all production steps can run optimally and sustainably.

In the past, bachelor's students from TU Ilmenau studying Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in precision measurement technology had already spent a semester at CJLU in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province about 190 km southwest of Shanghai. While the university used to only educate Bachelor's students, CJLU has also been offering Master's and doctoral programs in a total of 19 colleges for several years.

The future focus of the cooperation between TU Ilmenau and China Jiliang University will be on optics and electronics as well as intelligent sensor technology and precision measurement technology: "This means areas of basic research in which we at TU Ilmenau have a very special cross-faculty and interdisciplinary research strength and in which students can also specialize in their Master's program in Mechanical Engineering," says Professor Fröhlich.

The future cooperation between the two universities will focus on the exchange of doctoral students.
