On February 26, Werner Robitza successfully defended his dissertation on “Behavior-oriented Quality of Experience Assessment of Over-the-Top Video Services.”

Over-the-top video streaming dominates Internet traffic, which is why valid and automated methods are needed for the holistic measurement of Quality of Experience (QoE) at the video session level, taking user interactions during disruptions into account. The dissertation develops new theoretical models, immersive test designs, and methodological approaches to realistically capture the relationship between user behavior and QoE, and contributes to international ITU-T standards. In addition, laboratory and crowdsourcing studies with extensive measurements on real streaming platforms provide deep insights into authentic usage behavior and streaming quality.

The commission was chaired by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Jochen Seitz, and the doctoral supervisor was Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alexander Raake. Prof. Dr. Tobias Hoßfeld (University of Würzburg) and Prof. Dr. Narciso García (Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain) were the reviewers.
