The best press photos in the university library of the TU Ilmenau

On August 30, the University Library of TU Ilmenau will open an exhibition of 50 award-winning press photos from Hesse and Thuringia. In the competition "PresseFoto Hessen-Thüringen" of the journalists' associations of the two federal states, photographs taken by full-time photographing journalists documenting current events are awarded prizes. More than 50 photojournalists took part in the 14th edition of the competition with 500 photos in seven categories. The photos are free to view Monday through Saturday during library hours until Sept. 26.

"There is a story to each photo in the exhibition, which you can guess from the title and caption. What we don't guess but know is that all the photographers work with journalistic passion - and you can see that in the pictures," is how Heidje Beutel, Chairwoman of the Thuringia Regional Association of the German Journalists' Association, describes the award-winning press photos from Hesse and Thuringia. The picture "Fahrstuhlgate" by Bodo Weissenborn was chosen as the photo of the year 2020, endowed with 2000 euros. It shows the Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn and the Prime Minister of Hesse Volker Bouffier crowding into a narrow elevator together with nine other people - about four weeks after the first extensive Corona contact restrictions in spring 2020.
