For years, everyone has been talking about the "Internet of Things" - but what is it anyway: the Internet of Things? In his lecture at the TU Ilmenau Citizens' Campus, Prof. Jörg Robert, Head of the Group for Dependable Machine-to-Machine Communication at the TU Ilmenau, will delve deeply into the topic. In doing so, he also shows the connection with mobile technologies, especially the latest fifth generation 5G.

First, Prof. Robert illustrates the topic of the Internet of Things with application examples, addressing both opportunities and risks of the technology for the user. He then outlines the technologies required for the Internet of Things and addresses outstanding research questions. At the end of his talk, Prof. Robert ventures an outlook on the commercial introduction of the Internet of Things.
