Thuringia has produced numerous personalities who have gone down in world history: from St. Elisabeth, the reformer Martin Luther and the musical genius Johann Sebastian Bach to the classics Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller and the Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius - all these celebrities come from the small federal state with the great history. But it is not only poets and thinkers who play an important role in the identity of the Thuringians; numerous other personalities, such as the legendary landgraves, are remembered for their achievements: from reform education, kindergarten and healthcare to publishing, insurance and sport. Last but not least, engineering innovations, from the Brooklyn Bridge in New York to the Zeiss empire in Jena and the percussion needle rifle, can be attributed to Thuringians.
In his lecture at the TU Ilmenau Citizens' Campus, Dr. Steffen Raßloff, historian, publicist and curator, will read from his latest book "Thuringian Personalities", in which he introduces 55 of these great Thuringians.Thuringians. Raßloff is considered one of the best experts on the state's history and is the author of the standard works "Geschichte Thüringens" and "Mitteldeutsche Geschichte. Saxony - Saxony-Anhalt - Thuringia".
