The Technische Universität Ilmenau and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg have launched the Mobility Economics Research Forum. In this joint initiative, they are researching the profound upheavals in the automotive and mobility industry from an economic perspective. With interdisciplinary research and stakeholders from science, business and politics, the research forum aims to set the course for the mobility of the future.
The automotive industry, the heart of the German economy, is undergoing profound upheaval: 15 million electric cars are to be on the road in Germany by 2030, the charging infrastructure is to be drastically expanded, the value chains digitized and autonomous driving promoted. At the same time, supply chain crises, regulatory requirements and geopolitical tensions are putting a strain on the automotive industry.
In view of these major challenges in the automotive and mobility industry, TU Ilmenau and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg are launching the Mobility Economics Research Forum. The scientists are focusing their interdisciplinary research on three areas: Innovation processes, transformation economics and political economic analyses of subsidies and market dynamics.
In the Mobility Economics Research Forum, the two universities bring together stakeholders from science, business and politics to develop scientifically sound recommendations for competitive and sustainable mobility in the 21st century on the basis of economic analyses - especially for eastern Germany: As the location of major production facilities such as the Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide or Volkswagen's electric hub in Zwickau, eastern Germany is one of the main locations of the European automotive industry. The aim is to turn the challenges facing the German automotive and mobility industry into opportunities.
