On February 27, the West Thuringia regional competition of Jugend forscht will take place at TU Ilmenau. 73 children and young people will present the work they have previously carried out in 33 research projects on a wide range of scientific topics to a panel of experts - schoolchildren aged 10 to 14 in the "Jugend forscht Junior" competition and teenagers and young adults aged 15 to 21 in "Jugend forscht". Anyone who would like to look over the shoulders of the young researchers is invited to attend the public presentation on February 27 at 3 p.m. and the subsequent award ceremony at 4:15 p.m. on the TU Ilmenau campus in the Technology and Start-up Center at Ehrenbergstraße 11. Representatives of the media are very welcome. Further information: www.tu-ilmenau.de/jugend-forscht

"Jugend forscht" competition

The nationwide "Jugend forscht" competition is taking place this year under the motto "Turn questions into answers". Children, teenagers and young adults are encouraged to immerse themselves in the exciting world of research and science and turn their visions into reality. The range of topics covered by the young researchers' competition entries is broad: from safety in baby carriages to methods of water treatment in East Africa and the question of whether the school tablet is a bacteria spinner. TU Ilmenau and the company LINDIG Fördertechnik have been sponsoring the event since 2013.

Regional competition West Thuringia at the TU Ilmenau

Children and young people from elementary school, secondary schools and grammar schools in Eisenach, Gotha, Ilmenau, Neudietendorf and Ruhla take part in the West Thuringia regional competition. After preparing individually or in teams for weeks or even months, the time has finally come on February 27: 73 pupils will present their 33 projects from the research areas of the world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology at the TU Ilmenau. An expert jury evaluates the projects and the public can also be inspired by the expertise and inventiveness of the young researchers. The best will qualify for the state competition on April 2 in Jena. The competition round will conclude with the 60th national Jugend forscht final, which will take place in Hamburg from May 29 to June 1, 2025.
