Read, learn and work longer - Ilmenau University Library extends its opening hours
The University Library is now open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with opening hours extended by two hours each day into the evening hours. On Saturdays, the library remains open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is the University Library's response to the large demand for study space at the University, which has increased over the years. The reading room, with its diverse areas for individual and group work, as well as the cafeteria, are inviting places to learn, work and communicate during the extended hours.
In the past students in particular have repeatedly expressed their desire for longer opening hours, because the university library is still a place of learning that is in high demand, despite the trend towards digitalization of teaching and learning. Here, the extensive printed and digital content can be used in a stimulating, modern learning environment.
The extension of the opening hours of the University Library is connected with a change in the service hours. After 7 p.m., books will no longer be returned from the library account and fee payments will no longer be accepted in cash. It will still be possible to check out books using the existing self-checkout machines, return books using the book drop at the main entrance, and make fee payments using the thoska machines. The issue of accessories or keys for group study rooms is possible without restriction - in the evening hours from 7 to 10 p.m. by student employees.
The University Library, an operating unit of the TU Ilmenau, is the largest technical library in Thuringia. Its main task is to provide the university with literature and information for study, research and teaching. In addition, it is available to all citizens, public institutions, commercial enterprises and research institutions for professional and scientific purposes and for education and training.
