Virtual New Year's Concert of the TU Ilmenau

Ilmenau University of Technology welcomes the new year again in 2021 with its traditional New Year's concert - this time virtually due to the Corona crisis. "Even if the orchestra, big band and chamber choir cannot currently rehearse as usual and our traditional New Year's concert cannot take place live in the Audimax - culture and club life at our university live on in many different forms," says Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, just newly elected president of the university. The concert can be seen on Friday, January 29, at 7 p.m. on the TU Ilmenau YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/saMnrPsVNCk. Afterwards it will be available there for three months. Since a live performance is currently not possible, highlights of university culture from past concerts will be shown at the New Year's Concert 2021: First, the Academic Orchestra of TU Ilmenau, conducted by Henri Christofer Aavik, will play the suite "From Holberg's Time", op. 40, one of Edvard Grieg's most famous works. This will be followed by the finale of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Haffner Symphony", Symphony No. 35 in D major. After the spoken contributions with Prof. Kai-Uwe-Sattler, three modern pieces of the Second Unit Jazz, the big band of the TU Ilmenau, from a home office concert under the direction of Tim Jäkel can be heard and seen. Traditionally, the New Year's Concert is also connected this year with the review of the past year by the university management and an outlook on the main topics and goals of the TU Ilmenau for the new year. Afterwards, the former professors of the university are said goodbye and the new ones are welcomed. The production of the video of the New Year's Concert 2021 took place in the Audimax of the University with the support of the Forschungsgemeinschaft elektronische Medien e. V. of the TU Ilmenau.
