Springer has published the third German-language edition of the textbook „Virtual and Augmented Reality“, a comprehensively updated and expanded introduction to a key emerging field in computer science and media technologies. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Broll, head of the Virtual Worlds and Digital Games group, once again serves as co-editor and co-author of the volume.
The textbook covers the fundamentals, methods, and application areas of virtual and augmented reality and is aimed at students, instructors, researchers, and anyone interested in engaging with immersive technologies from a scientific perspective. The new edition addresses current developments and combines established fundamentals with new topics and perspectives.
A particular focus of the third edition is on collaborative VR and AR environments. An extensive new chapter is dedicated to this increasingly important area of development. Collaborative XR applications have been gaining significance in research and practice for years and simultaneously form an essential foundation for advanced concepts regarding a future metaverse.
With the publication of this third edition, the textbook continues to serve as an established reference for study, teaching, and research, while its content has been updated to reflect current developments in immersive technologies.
