It's that time again: The Institute of Physics is hosting the popular Physics Summer from September 7 to 11, 2026!
This year's theme is “From Matter to Material.”
The week-long program is aimed at high school students with a passion for physics and technology. This year, the program will cover everything from basic research into matter to the engineering applications of materials. Physics provides models for understanding how matter works.
Possible project topics that students can choose from when registering include:
• Polarization
• MOSFET
• Hard disk
• Laser
• Peltier element
• Dispersion
• SQUID
• Light-emitting diode
• Thermoelectric element
The topics will be discussed in lectures, explored in depth through practical work, and developed in guided seminars. The program is rounded off by supporting events that allow participants to experience the varied, colorful, and internationally rich life on the university campus. In addition to the intellectual challenge, there is also plenty of opportunity for sporting activities, such as competitive sledding on the Ilmenau summer toboggan run.
