An appointment procedure at TU Ilmenau is divided into the following phases, regardless of whether it is a W1, W2 or W3 professorship. Further information on tenure-track professorships can be found here. The most important legal bases are contained in the Thuringian Higher Education Act, the regulations on the procedure for the appointment of professorships(appointment regulations) and, in the case of tenure-track professorships, in the statutes regulating the structures, procedure and quality assurance in the context of tenure-track professorships and regulating the evaluation of junior professorships (PDF).

2. carry out a selection procedure

3. appointment list

Once the Department Council has passed a resolution, the appointment proposal is forwarded to the Senate for its opinion and, once the procedural file has been completed, to the President.

4. caller allocation

The President makes the final decision on the appointment proposal and grants the appointment. At the same time, the holder of the appointment is asked to discuss their future tasks and area of work with the head of the faculty. A meeting must then be arranged with the President's Board to discuss the specific details of the employment relationship - in particular the level of salary and other benefits.

5. appeal negotiations

The appointment hearing is conducted by the President with the holder of the appointment in the presence of the Chancellor and the Dean. This results in the offer of appointment, which must be signed by the holder of the appointment within a deadline after approval and signature by the university.

6. call acceptance

In addition to signing the offer of appointment, a declaration of acceptance of the appointment by the appointee (written, if necessary in advance by e-mail/fax) to the President is required within a deadline after receipt of the signed offer of appointment from the university. The recruitment procedure is then initiated and the appointment prepared. The other candidates on the list will be informed of the completion of the procedure.
