The Thuringian Centre of Innovation in Mobility (ThIMo) at Ilmenau University of Technology and the Bauhaus University Weimar are working with five other consortium partners to develop practical, sustainable mobility solutions for rural areas in Thuringia. By the end of 2029, mobility needs will be analyzed in three model regions, local public transport will be optimized and tailor-made operational mobility concepts will be developed in cooperation with local companies. The aim is to translate the findings into a supra-regional governance strategy for the whole of Thuringia. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the project with around 4.6 million euros.

The Department of Public Relations & Communication of Technology, in collaboration with ThIMo and the Bauhaus University Weimar, is supporting the project with social science research throughout the entire period. In several local and regionally representative survey waves, the perception, knowledge, information behavior and attitudes of the population on the subject of mobility as well as the acceptance of innovative mobility solutions will be examined. The first survey will start in mid-May at the Zentralklinik Bad Berka. In addition, two quantitative content analyses will be carried out to analyze regional and national reporting on the mobility transition.

Project presentation at the 1st Thuringian Mobility Conference

The project has now been presented to the public at the 1st Thuringian Mobility Conference on 27 and 28 March in Erfurt, organized by the State Development Corporation of Thuringia (LEG) and the Thuringian Ministry for Digital and Infrastructure Affairs (TMDI). In addition to MOVEwell, the focus was on two other key mobility initiatives in the presence of Thuringia's Minister of Infrastructure Steffen Schütz and State Secretary for Infrastructure Tobias J. Knoblich: the Thuringian Mobility Network (TMN), which aims to strengthen the networking of players in the Thuringian transport sector, and the “Integral Timetable (ITF) Thuringia 2030”, which aims to optimize local public transport through comprehensive planning and improved networking of regional bus and rail lines.
