Teaching collaboration between crisis simulation company Conducttr and the iRisCS-Com research group

This semester, graduate students of Media and Communication Science as well as International Business Economics will be working with the software and crisis simulation company Conducttr Germany. As part of a seminar offered by the iRisCS-Com research group at the Ilmenau University of Technology, students will develop concepts for communication campaigns to raise awareness of Conducttr's work among selected target groups.

The course combines elements of strategic communication with crisis communication. Participants learn techniques for developing PR campaigns and apply their knowledge to a ‘real’ client with expertise in crisis training. With the software developed by Conducttr, organizations can test strategies and procedures in the event of a crisis, identify weaknesses, and strengthen their crisis response capabilities. Students work in competing junior PR agencies and, at the end of the semester, must present their campaign concepts to Conducttr’s CEO, Torsten Rössing, LL.M., as part of a pitch.

The seminar is led by PD Dr. Andreas Schwarz, head of the International Risk Crisis & Science Communication Research Group (iRisCS-Com) at Ilmenau University of Technology. Through teaching and research projects, iRisCS-Com aims to contribute to the sustainable protection of civil society against risks and crises, as well as promote the perception of science as an essential part of democratic and free societies. Previous cooperation partners in teaching included the German AI Association, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Plan International, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and the SETI Institute.
