How can courses be enhanced digitally, innovative teaching formats tested, or new technologies used effectively in teaching? The eTeach contact point at TU Ilmenau is a resource for lecturers and anyone interested in further developing their teaching, trying out new ideas or finding out about current topics in higher education teaching.

The contact point provides information on current opportunities, helps with finding suitable training programmes, and advises lecturers on their own initiatives and project proposals. At the same time, the contact point brings issues and needs from TU Ilmenau into the Thuringian network and supports exchange across university boundaries.

Working together to further develop higher education

The eTeach Network Thuringia is an alliance of state-funded universities and higher education institutions in Thuringia dedicated to the collaborative development of digitally enhanced higher education. The network guides and promotes the digital transformation of teaching, learning and assessment, and supports lecturers in making targeted use of the opportunities offered by digitalisation for innovative higher education teaching. To this end, it offers various training and exchange programmes, promotes innovative teaching projects and facilitates networking within Thuringia and across Germany. 

The eTeach Network Thuringia is funded by the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. 

Ilmenau University of Technology is part of the eTeach Network Thuringia and has a local contact point in Mandy Maron, who is on hand to provide support with any questions relating to digital teaching and learning.

AI@eTeach

The online professional development series AI@eTeach is aimed at lecturers who wish to reflect on and responsibly integrate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) into their teaching. Participants will gain insights into the opportunities and challenges of AI in higher education and learn how they can support students in using AI competently.

genKI – Teaching Licence (FSU Jena) 

This self-study course on the use of generative AI in teaching, developed at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in cooperation with the eTeach network, offers an introduction to how generative AI works, specifically for lecturers, as well as an overview of selected tools and their pedagogical and legal applications in teaching. The course takes approximately 120 minutes to complete.

The Chancellor of the Technical University of Ilmenau, Dr Wolfgang Ramsteck, draws attention to a second self-study course, ‘genKI-Führerschein’, aimed at service and administration staff. 

Registration is straightforward via self-enrolment using your TU Ilmenau login details (university login).

The eTeach network offers students a free eTutor training programme to help them develop their own digital literacy or to learn about and reflect on the use of AI in their studies.

eTutor training

In the eTutor training programme, students are trained to become tutors so that they can subsequently provide targeted support in the creation of digital teaching and learning materials. The training programme comprises online workshops and Moodle self-study modules on topics such as media didactics, the design of multimedia learning resources, digital examination formats, and dealing with copyright and data protection in teaching.

Making teaching visible and learning from one another

At Ilmenau University of Technology, a wide range of ideas and innovative concepts for study and teaching are emerging. Lecturers are developing new course formats, trialling digital tools, redesigning examinations and creating learning opportunities in which students can work actively and independently.

The Contact Point aims to highlight these examples.

What makes for good teaching?

Good teaching has many facets. It can be innovative, digital or deliberately analogue. What matters is that the methods, media and learning activities are suited to the learning objectives and the specific teaching situation.

That is why the Contact Point aims not only to present ready-made concepts, but also to share experiences:

Good Practice Platform eTeach

The Good Practice Platform (GPP) is a collection of tried-and-tested teaching and learning concepts from universities in Thuringia. The aim is to highlight successful practices, encourage exchange between lecturers, disseminate innovative approaches and, in particular, offer new lecturers inspiration for their own teaching.

The practical examples can be filtered according to various criteria. In addition, you can comment on posts, share your own experiences and submit your own teaching formats.
