The Universitätsgesellschaft Ilmenau - Freunde, Förderer, Alumni e. V. (Ilmenau University Society - Friends, Sponsors,Alumni), which has been in existence since 1991, sees itself as a link for all those who have an interest in the prosperity of the TU Ilmenau, especially in the promotion of its scientific, cultural and student life, and is committed to preserving the tradition and identity of Ilmenau's academic education.
One of the noblest concerns of the University Society is its impact on society, especially on the economy of the Federal Republic, combined with the promotion of cooperative relations between industry and the University.
The Expert Committee on Industrial Engineering and Business Informatics (FA WIW/WI), founded at the beginning of 2023 under the umbrella of the University Society, has set itself the goal of intensifying the connection of graduates of the two degree programs to their alma mater through a subject- and program-oriented focus. At the same time, opportunities for new cooperations between the TU Ilmenau and companies of the alumnae and alumni are to be opened up.
The conference "AI and the Digital Factory" on November 17 and 18, 2023 will serve the exchange about current trends in science and business. In addition to the presentation of the current research and teaching profile of the university, especially the Department of Economic Sciences and Media, applications and opportunities of AI and digitalization will be presented in lectures by renowned company representatives. This first meeting of the FA WIW/WI is intended to enable alumnae and alumni to reunite with their former faculty as well as to exchange ideas among themselves and to develop new contacts.
